How do I calculate the grammage - for example for letterheaded paper?  Open

The grammage correlates to the thickness of the material. The thicker the paper, the heavier it is and often times the higher does the quality feel. The provided grammage of print products describes the weight of a 1m² standard sheet (A0).

Our recommendation: Flyers can also be used with a lower grammage (approx. from 135 gsm) depending on the application area. Business cards should always be ordered in a high grammage (e.g. 400 gsm). This weight corresponds to:

  • 400 gram = 1 m²
  • 1 business card = 8.5 cm x 5.5 cm (also 0.00468 m²)

This makes up the weight of the business card:

  • 1 business card = 1.87 g

With the help of the paper weight calculator the paper weight is approximately calculated. The weight refers to that of unprinted paper. Depending on the colour saturation different values and weights result, which can deviate from the results of the paper weight calculator. Therefore these should preferably not be used for calculation of quantities of individual products.
